When minerals are entrapped within host minerals during high-pressure and high-temperature metamorphic processes, their residual stress state serves as an elastic geobarometer to reconstruct their initial entrapment conditions. Traditional models assume a mineral’s stiffness stays constant under pressure—an assumption that works fine for hard minerals like zircon, but causes major calculation errors for softer ones like quartz wrapped inside garnet. To solve this, a new MATLAB tool—set for integration into the EntraPT platform—accounts for pressure-induced stiffening, offering researchers a far more precise look at host-inclusion systems ranging from crustal metamorphic rocks to deep-mantle diamonds.
