SUMMARY:Lake Como School of Advanced Studies- Vibrational Spectroscopy meets Geoscience (GeoVibrS)
DESCRIPTION:Vibrational spectroscopic techniques are becoming increasingly available and fundamental for the investigation of Earth’s and planetary materials at the microscale in situ as they allow preserving the pristine nature of the sample while carrying out the analyses. However\, current advances in vibrational spectroscopic techniques are pushing the limit also for data interpretation and processing that require increasingly more to be coupled with computational methods. In Earth science application we are progressively away from the simplistic approach “measure-compare” toward a more sophisticated “simulate – measure – interpret” approach. \nThe school aims at providing a comprehensive view of state of the art vibrational spectroscopic methods including the underlying theory and experimental challenges. The program will span from a substantial portion of computational methods (ab initio and numerical) and experimental approaches. Business-oriented applications will also be presented. \nThe GeoVirbrS school is supported by the PhD School of the University of Milan Statale\, University of Pavia\, University of Genova and is aimed at masters\, PhD students and postdocs but more experienced researchers are also welcome.
